China's Belt and Road - update and opportunities

China is investing heavily into developing the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI) and countries all along the route are being offered opportunities to participate. The UK is at the very end (or start) of this initiative so keeping up to date with developments and understanding how the international community view its achievements is vital to understanding China.

After Brexit and the failure of the Trans Pacific Partnership (TPP), UK firms are being presented with new opportunities to get involved in the fast growing Chinese economy. BRI, previously known as the One Belt One Road, has opened up the old Silk Road between China and Europe. Understanding the significance of the BRI is critical both for manufacturers as well as professional advisers so this round table discussion will bring the latest updates on BRI progress as well as insights as to how to get involved.

Speakers

William Franklin, CEO China Investors Club

After an intensive 2 months of business development in China including attendance at key conferences in Langfang and Beijing, William will share the latest insights into how BRI is being perceived by an international audience. William will also provide recent examples of helping UK firms enter commercial relationships with Chinese partners in the area of education and technology.

We will also hear from M&A specialists about how they see investment flows developing for UK firms along the BRI. With over $400bn of investment projects already identified out of an estimated $1trn, there remains significant scope for UK firms to participate. Discussions will also touch on the latest changes in SAFE (State Administration of Foreign Exchange) regulation that restricts flow of Chinese capital overseas and what UK firms can do to understand and manage such changes.
