March has brought significant developments in the events industry. The MPI Iberian Chapter convened its expert jury to select the finalists for the MPI Iberian Awards 2025. Meanwhile, the Event Managers Association (EMA) Spain hosted an EMA Learn session focused on the ongoing debate: “High Tech vs. High Touch”, exploring how to strike the right balance between technology and human interaction at events.

As for us at Eventscase, we’ve got plenty to share: the launch of Event Tech Hub, expanding our joint venture with Padcelona into a full ecosystem, a new whitepaper analysing technologies that fell short of expectations, and a fresh instalment of our “Did You Know?” training series, this time focusing on iframe pages.

MPI Iberian Awards 2025: Finalists’ Deliberation

The events industry in Spain has reason to celebrate: the MPI Iberian Chapter received a record-breaking 108 nominations for the 7th edition of the MPI Iberian Awards. This milestone not only surpasses previous years but also highlights MPI’s growing influence in the sector. Notably, this year saw a significant boost in diversity, with more nominations submitted by women and young professionals.

The jury meeting took place on 20 March at Phygital Gallery (Madrid), a new MICE venue that hosted a panel of distinguished industry professionals gathered to deliberate on the finalists across ten categories. Among the jury members was Mentxu Sendino, CMO of Eventscase, who participated in the evaluation process for the third consecutive year.

In total, the panel comprised 23 experts representing key industry associations and companies, ranging from convention bureaus to agencies and technology providers. After a thorough and lively discussion, the finalists in each category were selected. Now, all that’s left is to wait for 3 April, when the winners will be revealed at the awards gala at Feria Valencia, coinciding with Global Meetings Industry Day (GMID) 2025.

EMA Learn “High Tech vs. High Touch”: Balancing Technology and Emotion

The Event Managers Association Spain (EMA) hosted an inspiring EMA Learn session on 20 March at the Hotel Gallery in Barcelona, under the theme “High Tech vs. High Touch.” The focus was on finding the right balance between technology and human connection in corporate events.

The session featured two standout speakers: Raimond Torrents (Event Management Institute) and Edgar Sanjuán (CEO and founder of Emogg). Torrents emphasised the importance of live emotional impact as a key factor in an event’s success, while Sanjuán impressed the audience by presenting a technological tool capable of measuring emotional responses and audience engagement in real time—using cameras and sensors.

Under the evocative theme of “High Tech vs. High Touch,” attendees reflected on how to combine data and human experience to create more memorable events. This free resource offers a critical look at technology trends and tools that generated significant hype in the MICE sector in recent years but ultimately failed to meet expectations.

The 2020 pandemic accelerated the adoption of solutions such as virtual platforms, hybrid events, virtual reality environments, and even blockchain-based ticketing as a means of survival during challenging times. While some proved useful temporarily, many failed to live up to expectations once the initial urgency subsided. Our whitepaper explores the reasons behind this, highlighting factors such as poor user experience, lack of ROI, and implementation challenges.

By examining these real-life examples, the whitepaper offers valuable lessons for future projects—demonstrating how learning from past missteps can lead to more informed technology decisions. We invite you to download the whitepaper and share your thoughts and experiences with us. After all, innovation also means recognising what hasn’t worked—and knowing how to evolve.

DOWNLOAD NOW

New episode: “Did you know?”– Iframe Pages in Digital Venue

Our on-demand content series, “Did You Know?”, is back with its 20th episode!
