Flying out of Heathrow T2 today on my way to promote UK technology excellence to China I passed one of the most visible icons of what makes British innovation great. Concorde showed what the UK was capable of achieving when we set our mind to it.

A super-sonic airliner flying commercial routes for 30 years. Still looking as sleek today as when she was first launched in the mid 1970's during economic recession, social unrest and the Cold War, Concorde with her Union Jack tail fin stood for more than just fast air travel but for innovation that led the world.

China has its equivalent of Concorde with its high speed trains running the length and breadth of China. Soon to be exporting its skill in this area to countries around the world, it can be justifiably proud of this achievement.

However, China still looks to the UK as the mother of innovation although more recently this has been in the area of clean energy and Life Science and Healthcare.

During my current trip to China I will be speaking to Chinese business leaders regarding sustainable power storage solutions for industrial facilities. I will also be introducing the latest in cancer detection technology to tier 1 hospitals in Beijing while consolidating the progress of the newly launched China Medical City China Medical City and China Investors Club signed an Memorandum Of Understanding on 17th May 2017 to invest into UK Medtech innovation.

I don't know what the collective brilliance of UK innovation will set its mind to in the future however by building relationships with China we may find the money and markets to fulfill such dreams.
